auto to manual

I have got a 99 5.4 with an auto trans and just wondering if anyone has converted and auto to manual and if it is worth the work...this truck has been in the family since new so i would like to keep it as i love the truck. it is the XL model if that makes a difference.
is the length of the trannies the same or would i have to do some mods to the driveshafts?
Anyone who has any info on this would really help out, thanks.

I actually want to do the same thing, but it seems like it would be too much work cause you would probably have to switch the dash and steering column as well as the transmission, but i am not sure what electronic problems u may have. hopefullly someone here has more info on this...

might be cheaper ... maybe ... to just find a donor vehicle... or were you planning on getting all new parts to do this ... and may i ask why ? did something happen to your auto? maybe you can find a repo or one that has been in a accident that didnt effect the tranny etc....

in my estimatation the clutch etc. would be more of a pain to deal with then the tranny itself ... might need a different vehicle computer as well.//

seems like a big hassle and lot of time and $

I'll agree on the donor truck. The problem here is finding one that 1) someone is selling and 2) a bone yard will part out and not have already gutted.

You'll want everything from the pedal back to make the switch as painless as possible.

No nothing is wrong with the trans i have now, for 174k miles it is in terrific shape, shifts great no slippage, no problems whatsoever. I am not trying to do the change until this tranny goes, but i wanted to find out if it was even possible/worth the hassle.
I agree with your idea on finding a donor vehicle, they are always good to have for spare parts, but if i can't find one, what price would i be looking at for just the tranny, and what is it called so i can look it up?
Thanks again for all the help guys.
