I have some Pirelli Scorpions on the truck I just got. These tires are in fine shape with good tread but not rated very well for snow/ice and since I am headed to Chicago I am going to get some better tires this weekend. I will keep the Pirellis for summer or as an extra set. I don't tow much so can get away with D rating.
Thinking of the Goodyear SilentArmor and wanted to hear whether folks recommend the 265s or the 285s. Other suggestions also appreciated. And if you have any buying suggestions other than Sams Club.

As to where to buy them, try Discount Tire. The 285s will fill out the wheel wells nicely and like i eat hybrids said, you won't have to worry about the tires rubbing on anything. You won't hurt anything with the 285's either.

I've searched all over online and I'm finding the best price at Sams. Tirerack is about $20 cheaper per tire but when you factor in shipping and mounting it's a wash.

You will find the best price at Sam's, but when the time comes to buy new tires, they won't help you out any. I bought two sets of tires from sams before I finally got tired of them having to back order the tires I needed. From there, I went to discount where they not only had what I wanted, but if they didn't, they could get it quickly. When the time came to buy some new tires, instead of spend $1000 like I did last time, I only ended up spending just under $700 for the same tires! (after I bought a set of tires from them a year and a half earlier!)
Just get a price quote from Sams club, Discout Tire will match the price! Then you will have a better chance to get repairs etc, especially when travelling!! There are way more Discount Tire stores around than Sams Club stores! Take it from me buying from discout tire saved me once while out of town on a trip with a separated tire!!

Seems like there are about 600 Sams and 700 Discount Tire stores nationally. Plus Discount Tire isn't anywhere close to where I live.
I will shop the local tire store to see if I can get a competitive quote.
I would definitely go with the 285s. I went even larger with 295/75-16s (BFG T/A-KOs) on the stock wheels and am very happy with them. Much better traction in the sand and only a slight decrease in towing power up big hills (pulling a toy hauler out to the Glamis sand dunes). I do get very minor rubbing with the wheel cranked hard over, but nothing to worry about.
FWIW, discount will always have my business. They have always gone the extra mile with me it seems
•I needed some big tires to tow behind my X to beat down a field (redneck fix for not having a field mower lol) went up to discount tire, and they said I could have some old ratty takeoffs for free (ended up having some used JET tires taken off a local airfield (I was a happy camper haha)
•I was out of town and the car I was in had a flat (and the spare was bald) and I had a few hour drive to get where I needed to be and I was in a time crunch. They understood and snuck me into the front of the line. (and sold me a mostly new tire to replace the spare at a really good price)
•Spent time to work with me on what tire/rim was best and cheapest when I upgraded. Ended up with 285/70/17's (I needed a wider rim to be safer and the 17's were really cheap)
•free rotations and air checks (don't bother for the air checks, but it helps with the warranty if they have records of rotations I think)
•honest and nice people and good prices :-)
Maybe not convenient for everyone, but if it is, I would HIGHLY recommend them..
As has been mentioned here before 285's seem to be what these trucks are really calibrated for. So check that out before changing speedo gears. that is to say 285"s seem to be more accurate on the lie_o -meter than 265"s

Same tires on mine. Let me know how much difference they make. I agree they aren't the greatest on snow & ice, usually end up using 4 high, but that doesn't help braking.
