I've been having a problem for a while. When I'm driving on the highway for about 2 hours or more oil starts coming out where the engine meets the bellhousing. It leaks on the exhaust and makes a lot of smoke. I have tried STP oil stop leak and high mileage oil and 10-40 oil with no results. The leak stops after a day or two but starts up if I go on the highway again. This only happens after driving for a few hours doing 65 - 70 mph. I can drive on the highway for 30 min and have no problem. I have had no problems for about a year avoiding high speeds for extended peroids. Not a huge deal just wondering if it a common problem or an easy fix. It's a 1992 Aerostar 3.0 w/ 120,000 miles.
Check to see if it's coming from the valve covers, and dripping down to the exhaust manifolds. That's an easier fix than the alternatives: The intake manifold gasket, oil pan gasket, or rear main seal. Usually the latter three will not drip onto the exhaust manifolds. If they're really bad, they will drip onto the Y pipe.

That sounds like your rear crankshaft seal has a bit of a weep. Your engine oil level is not overfilled is it? Try changing your PCV valve.
I agree, sound more like transmission fluid. It is common for the transmission to leak like that when the front seal is worn out. It will come and go, and would probably only leak under load or if the vehicle is left idling for an extended period of time.
No, its definately oil, and it only comes out where the engine connects to the bellhousing. Everything else is dry. This problem happened to me about a year ago going from Chicago to Minneapolis. It's been driving fine since, just as long as i stay off the highway for very long. I'm going to check the PCV that sounds like the problem, I have never changed it. Im guessing that it is partially clogged or something. I'm going to change it anyway because it is overdue. I'll see if that solves the problem. I was even thinking of installing a real oil pressure gauge. Would that would tell me if blow-by gasses were building up pressure? Thanks for all the help.
No, the oil pressure gauge, if installed properly, will only measure the pressure right after the oil pump.
The blow-by ends up in what's supposed to be the non-pressurized part of the engine. You might be able measure something by installing a gauge on the oil filler pipe. Or just remove the cap and put your hand over it to see if you feel any high pressure.
I changed the PCV valve and noticed the top hose was all cracked up. So I bought some tubing and changed the little 2" bend. I was wondering what the difference is between the top and bottom hoses are because my Buick PCV only has 1 hose.

Yours has 2 hoses! where do they go ? mine has the 90*elbow & one hose going to the air intake.
