Back here again...
My middle son has liked all my Rangers, 87, 93, & 96 that I've had. He's now 20 and is in the Navy Reserve, or should I say in the Sea Bee's?? But now has the income and resources to own his own truck. We've been looking for some time and found a 01 4X4 Extended Cab, 4.0L Auto, PW, PL for him. It's got a few miles on it, but it does seem to run really well.
So here are my first set of questions about his truck that I thought I'd start with you guys..
This truck is Black over Silver, not just the rock panels around the wheels, but is actually painted black and silver. Was this an option on an XLT? It's the first I've seen that was actually painted this way.
We just picked it up last night so I haven't had a real opportunity to see it to look at these items yet in the daylight, and have not yet went out and snapped any photos of it, so please bear with me. This is a 4 door version and there is road noise coming from the door area. Is there adjustment on the drivers door to help tighten it? Or do you think it's the back door not closed tight enough?
And the dreaded 60/40 bench with the console/armrest with the broken lid latch. I looked in the bone yards for one around here when my 96 broke, and gave up and glued it back together. But there's nothing left to glue so it'll need to be replaced. If I go to the bone yard, it's just easier to get the whole unit, but if I go back and order a new one, can you order just the lid or is there no way to get just the lid off without destroying the box? So should I just order the whole unit from them as well???
So other than the normal broken driving light lense, a few scratches, door dings and the like that's all that's wrong with it. There's plenty I'd do to it, but I'll try to hold back and allow my son to make up his own mind. Like I have a "headache" rack for it, but it has the tall plastic bed rails on it and I haven't looked to see how they attach or if I can put it on. But I don't know even IF he wants it. He doesn't want the cross bed tool box because of these. I'll snap a few pics later today and add them to this post...
For the rear doors, you don't have to slam them, but give them a tug at the top to see if it's latching. Every time my wife goes into the back for something, she doesn't close the door properly and I get the road noise too.
Don't know what to tell you about the arm rest door, looks like a good truck though.
