well i worked in the garage for quite a while today, got the new rear tires on the new rims and installed. Finished removing the old oil pan and replaced witht he new painted one. Cleaned and painted starter and flywheel cover and installed. Put together front springs with gaskets and installed bushing and painted the front axel. Looks like itll be on its own wheels tomorrow or thursday, then its time to tackle 12v conversion
change bulbs, coil, alernator/generator, reistors to distributor (i got a pertronix so im good there) resistors to all guages except volt meter, voltage regulator and battery and im changing my cables too. Can change the starter too but not necesary
Heres a kinda off topic, but kinda on topic. Can you get a upgraded distributer that doesnt use points for your truck? With going to twelve volt it might be an asset to upgrade stuff like that.
it's not necasseary from 1955 till 1972ish points were used on 12 volt, Even some 302s used points yet..
There are so many ignition systems now for Flatheads as well as any other older motor anything is readily avable for a decent price.
petronix ignitor is what your talking about, runs around 100$ and takes 5 mins to install. Put one in mine today as a matter of fact. Its just an easy electronic ignition that deletes the points and condenser
