I was just wondering if there was a difference in a starter for a 89 and a 94 or not?? i ahve one for an 89 that will filt but i hear it's different somehow. oh and by the way it's a 5 speed truck
You might try something like rockauto.com and type in both trucks to see if they show the same PN. If they look the same, have the same amount of teeth, and spin the same direction, why not?
Should be a VERY noticeable difference in the two. The '94 starter will have the "REAL" solenoid mounted right on the starter. The fender mounted relay only drives the solenoid. The '89's fender mounted relay IS the solenoid, and the starter's field coils actually engage the bendix. Look under the hood to identify what's there now. Look at the starter, and see how different it looks. If you don't see the cylindrical solenoid mounted on it with one large post and either a .250" spade connector or another smaller stud, NO, you cannot use the '94 starter. If you find a large cable going from the fender mounted relay to the starter, NO, you cannot use the '94.
They are NOT interchangeable without some significant modifications to the primary electrical system, and I'm not sure they're mechanically the same, i.e. that the bendix does the same thing on them.
