E40D 2wd-4wd conversion
I'm currently in the midst of a ground up resto on an 86' F-250 in which I'll be installing a 460 and E40D transmission I recently aquired out of an 89' E350 bus doner. I've already built an NP205 case to bolt up to the 31 spline output but obviously am running into a problem because the E40D had the 2wd rear-end.
My question is can I use the back end of the AOD I pulled along with the trucks' original drive-train and install it onto the E40D so it'll receive the NP205, or do I have to find another E40D?
The other odd thing is that I noticed by looking at pictures on the internet that the E40D that I have doesn't look the same as all the others. The housing itself looks like a C6, but according to all the numbers I've ran and pan identification it's a E40D. I figure the only way I'm going to know for sure is by tearing into it to look for that 4th gear.
Can anyone give me advice on any of these matters?
where in MI are you? I have an E40D for a small block that is a 4x4 tranny you could take the back section off of that if youll come and get it. I am in Waterford...
Actually, the use of your E40D would be tremendously useful. What would you want in trade? I have two complete 302 drivetrains I've been dying to get rid of in my garage. I have a house in Farmington Hills so I'm not that far away.
