A4OD Transmission
I have a 1990 F250 with an A4OD transmission that will not upshift. It will shift by hand but I have to start out in 1st or 2nd. It will not run from a dead stop in drive,but will when I shift from 2nd to drive. Can anyone help?

see if there are any codes in the ecu to start
second, go to www.fordfuelinjection.com
then to down load files
read on the mlps as this is the most common failure point
test this out per there insructions

He said it was an AOD. Sounds to me like you need the throttle linkage repair kit. A plastic bushing in the linkage crumbles, and the linkage falls off the throttle pivot. The kit replaces the plastic bushing with bronze, and should last the life of the transmission. I just put one on my son's '90 T-Bird a few months ago. Don't remember the part number, but if you go to your favorite stealership, and say AOD, they'll know what you're after. Very common problem. Biggest problem is, it's a dealer-only item. I HATE getting ANYTHING from the dealers around here. They're just a bunch of pirates. You may have to tweak the adjustment of the kick-down cable just a smidge if it hung on something when it popped off.
