Does anybody know how Fords LSD actually works. My 2008 F250 has LSD and has right wheel peel only on snow and ice.The left side won't engage at any point. My 2006 F250 would have traction with both rear wheels until you got going. Thanks
I'm having the exact same issue my 2008. Either the LSD is INOP or not installed from the performance seen. Planning on taking into the dealer to get checked out.

They will fix it under warrant they did mine! just had to repack the clutches
Thanks for the Info. I just returned from BullyDog Performance tech shop where they installed the new PMT and it run's Great! I have an appointment next week to have Ford look at the LSD.
I had the same problem and took my truck in. They said the ls was ok but repacked it. My ls still does not work the way it should.
They make differant spacers for the clutches They must pack them as tight as possible even if they have to use a dead blow to get the spider gears back in.
That will solve your problem. plus a good posi lube additive
Tom, Thanks for the info. I have an appt next week,I know the service guy's real well so i will pass the info on to them on the spacers and posi lube.I just hate tearing into a brand new rear diff with only 8700 miles on it,But i want it to work right!
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, Basshunter, but how do you like the PMT so for? I have one ordered and it should be in sometime next week. I can't understand why Bully Dog gets so much disrespect on this forum!
Vic, The PMT works awesome so far! Have only had it in since tuesday. My good friend is one of the owners of BD.so i have a great inside there. The new Pmt has 3 levels of power Tow,Perf,Extreme which the first one only had 2 levels.I have only been able to put a couple hundred miles on so far.The big notice was comming home from BD there are a couple of long uphills and i was pulling a trailer that weighed about 2500 lbs behind and it never once shifted out of OD! It just motored up at 75 mph and kept goin. Before it would shift out of OD with nothin in tow so that's a plus so far.I think mileage will be 1-2 better.Good luck and let me know how your works.I do some testing so input is good!
define LS - because limited slip is supposed to allow some torque to the wheel that grips. A open diff will let no to very minimal torque to the wheel that grips
I dont trust LS so im going to get selectable lockers when the time and money comes.
I do know if you change your rear diff fluid, do it with little or no friction modifier and it may help - but you may also get chatter around turns...
I would also like to know how they "test" the ls... cause even a good LS with one wheel on ice will still make one wheel spin and the other not do anything
I had the dealer pack it tight but I guess not tight enough.
From the LS that I have set up it takes about 200 lbs of force to rotate a tire. The stock LS only takes about 30 Lbs.
I've had either LS or Detroit lockers in all my vehicles.

thats good to know about the necessary force to rotate a tire, do you think 200 lbs is nearly enough to make the tire with grip help along an icey trail... i think it may help a little but it wont be the difference between making it up the trail vs not. (2 ccets)
Guys-
I know with the LSD in the Mustang 8.8" rear, it was common to repack the clutches and change up the order to get more grip. I don't remember the exact order off hand but IIRC, instead of stacking the spacers and clutches in pairs, it was one at a time. I did this a couple times with my car before eventually switching to a T2R for road racing.
