starter help

A Friend of mine bought a 1978 Ford F-250 w/a 429 awhile back and now it needs a new starter, It has a 300-I6 bell, and 390 flywheel. What will work for this set up? (NEED HELP ASAP)

How is that possible?
A 300-I6 uses the same bell housing as a 302 small block. I don't even think a 390 bellhousing will mate to 429. I dont know about the flywheel. I think I would definatly crawl under the truck and see what is there.

Another thought... why couldn't he just take the old starter to the parts store and let them match it up with a new one?
