Transmissions

I think that i need to get a new transmission for my truck and i started lookin on the iinternet for trannys and i found a Ford 4R70W Transmission. and i was just wondering if that was a replacement 1999 Ford F-150 4.6L Auto Tranny 4X4. I just wasnt sure what the trannys were called in these trucks any help would be great. Thanks.

Actually the 99 came with both the 4R70W and the other "100" tranny. You have to check the transmission code on your door sticker to be sure.

Generally, the 4R70W was mated with the 4.6 and the 4R100 with the 5.4. However, this was not a hard and fast rule.

Therefore, you need to check the door label and look up the TRAN code.

Also, the 4 X4 and 4 X2 transmissions are not interchangeable.

Beware of inexpensive rebuilt trannys. You get what you pay for.

I think that my tranny code is U? im not sure tho can anynody show me where to go to check out my whole VIN code. the rebuilt tranny that i was lookin at had a 14 month/ 14000 mile warranty for $900. I'm in college right now so i dont really have time to rebuilt a tranny so i thought this one might be able to work any help would be great Thanks.
