I've got an 01' F-250, that came factory equipped with a tow package. The wiring harness originally came with a 7 way round and 4 way flat receptical. A previous owner had hacked the harness and gotten rid of the 4-way. Now I'm having trouble with whats left of the original wiring. I was going to cut the original gray rectangular plug (plugs into the vehicle wiring near the spare tire) off the harness and rewire it but I feel like that will just put me in the same place with all the salt and crud that is on the roads here in NY. So then I figured I'd check out NAPA and they don't have a plug and play harness that will fit the stock vehicle wiring. They told me to buy two different harness' and piece them together. Not my idea of a proper fix. The dealer tells me that he can get the harness but he says its somewhere over $100. I don't think he knows what I'm looking for cause that price seems ridiculous. I mean its only 2 feet of wire with a Ford style plug on one end and the standard trailer recepticals on the other. Not to mention he couldn't visually verify the part on the computer. Anyway does anyone know if this harness is made in the aftermarket? OR, maybe there is someone who knows the Ford part number?
zx250 has you covered. It is actually a Draw-tite part number 118243. I ordered mine through my local U Haul rental place and got it for under $40 though, so you might want to check there too.
You should be able to get a converter at your local auto parts store or at Wal-Mart, it plugs into your 7 pin round and has the 4pin flat female connector on the end. not sure about a brand or part number but i have seen them at wal-mart, fleet farm, menards, home depot, lowes, tractor supply. Look around they are easy to find and only about 8 bucks, sure beats $50 or more.
I LOVE THIS SITE!! Its nice to be able to share the collective knowledge of you guys and zx 250 hit the nail spot on the head. Thats the exact part I was looking for. You other guys were on the right track just not quite there Anyway I'll look into seeing if I can source if from U-haul as there is one only a few minutes from here. Once again thanks for the help guys, its much appreciated!
zx250 and beerstalker have you covered. My truck came with the Hoppy and it works great. After years of corrosion the ground on the four flat side broke off. I like the big 7 and 4 flat together as a unit. Why in the world would you hack it off? You can get the Hoppy version for 30-35 dolla at the AutoZone
