The best that you can get out of the v-10 is like 1 mpg. Thats with exhaust, intake. I think the best cheap bolt on mod for the v-10 is a y pipe. For $80.00. The people in the v-10 forum all say they notice a difference.
The sound sucks though. Sounds like Alvin the Chipmunk on steroids.
Ya but the OP wants mods for better gas mileage. We also dont kno if he wants a loud exhaust or not. Im thinking he doesnt mind a loud exhaust because in his post he stated he wanted to do an exhaust.

You must realize that "loud" and "obnoxious" are two totally different things.
I don't think many of us want the fart can ricer sound, or anything similar to it on an Excursion.
I guess it depends on what brand and kind of y pipe u get. Some pipes look more like y's and then theirs our "t pipes". Ppl in the v-10 forum say some y pipes sound good and a little more throaty and hten theirs some that will make ur truck sound like a 4 bang japense car. Also i have seen some threads if ur interested bought the y pipe mod and their are ppl in the v-10 forum who have bought their y pipes off ebay, with good results (in throtle response, mpg and sound).
If you want to avoid the ricer sound on the mighty V10, I've found the only answer to be an Aeroturbine or now Aero Exhaust muffler. Check out their website and you can hear a sound clip. It's nice, thoaty, and has a nice mean growl when you're on it.
If you go with a cold air intake be advised that when hauling a heavy trailer and under accel. at anything more than 1/2 throttle will be very annoying!!!
