Alright, I have what I believe to be the UVC harness problem, it started Saturday, when I left home the truck started missing.
1:The engine light came on, is this what everyone refers to as the SES light?
It went on&off several times as the missing came and went.
2: I drove straight to AutoZone, even though the light was off and they couldn't get a code. I guess no surprise, I need to order a scanner. But the problem went away and didn't comeback till this morning.
3: This morning I can't get over 10mph, lights on all the time but now I can't get anywhere to get the code read. SO, I've been reading the threads on the UVC, but can't seem to find the method for checking it without removing the cover, I thought there was a way but maybe I'm wrong. Wasn't there a pin check w/volt meter or something like that?
Alright, the trouble is on the passenger bank, also, all of my GP's are reading high, but the rear one is not reading at all, is this the harness or should I get a a couple GP's while I'm out? I don't want to tear it down till I get back because I have to leave it half in/out of my heated garage.
Glow plugs are cheap and you live in Michigan. If I had to go through the hassle of removing the valve cover I'd swap out all 4 GP's on that side while I was in there.
Alright, I'll pick some up, I'm going to do the harness fix on both sides, don't need this happening again. Here's another problem, I broke the 'lock' on the passenger side harness, do I need to buy a new harness just to fix that?
The glow plugs on the driver side are reading .1 at the most, they are in very good condition, that's why I kind of wondered about the GPs on the pass side.
I think I read somewhere you can buy a new connector and just plug your wires back into the new connector. I'd be worried about driving too much with a broke lock.
Maybe someone else that knows for sure will chime in.
It's the connector on the head that broke.
And I definitely don't want to drive like that, it comes out very easy. Mybe I can find room for a small zip tie or something, I'll have to check it out better when it's all apart, it's very hard to see in there.
OK, the connector is part of the VC gasket and they didn't have any, I think I can secure it with zip ties and do a 'real' fix this spring when I have my 'initimate weekend' with my truck.
Now, If anyone knows the connector on the wiring harness, please let me know because they couldn't eve find that one....
I've always had good luck with powerstrokeshop.com You can't always find what you need on their website but you can shoot them an email or call them at 1-800-572-1422. They seem to put in the extra effort to make sure you get the right part.
Chris, Thanks, when I get this job done I'll give them a try, things just got better, I went out to put it in the garage, now it won't start, guess I'm doing this one in the cold!!
Well, I got the passenger side done, which looks like the hard one. This weekend I will do the drivers side.
I did a triple Bundy off the front bumper and landed flat on my back, freezing rain and chrome bumpers do not mix well!
