Casting Numbers & Advice

I have a 1968 thunderbird that says 429 thunderjet on the breather, my intake numbers are C8SE my head numbers are C8VE my block numbers are C8VE. My question is should my block and head numbers read C8SE or is the block and head universal to all 1968 385 series engines. I need to know if I have a authentic 429 thunderjet or did someone slip a 460 under my intake.

Anything is possible in 30+ years. Also, Ford didnt stick to "matching #s" like you always read about in the mags about the GMs and Mopars. I just tore apart a 460 of unknown vintage, but never rebuilt. It had a D1 block, C8 rods, D3 heads,... you get the picture. The only way to know the displacement for sure is to measure the stroke of the crank.

the only way to tell the 429 from the 460 for sure is to look at the crankshaft....a 429 will have 4U or 4UA stamped into one of the counterweights...anything else, and it's a 460...
