I think is an oil cooler heat exchanger. Its attached to the lower radiator hose, and I think its coolant that runs to the housing for the oil filter, and heat exchanger is that housing. If I am mistaken, please correct me. Also, this radiator hose is leaking by the radiator, so I want to replace it, but am not sure if the hose will come with this piece in mind, or if the whole thing is just one piece. Insight is much appreciated. Thank you.

The hose coming from the lower right corner goes to the lower radiator connection. So I think the oil cooler is this gray part with the smaller hoses going to the part above the oil filter (the white part).
This is what I think is the heat exchanger. I'm thinking coolant comes in the 5/8" dia hoses (it looks) and cool the hot oil going to/from the oil filter.
Yes, I had mine off when I changed my engine out. Coolant does pass through it. My hose lookes like it was cut to fit the center peice in. Im sure if you get a price on the hose and its alot, it has the peice, if its cheap it doesnt.
but the hose to the radiator from the oil cooler has a hose clamp on it, so I was thinking that that is the part of the hose you could buy. I don't think the whole oil cooler needs to be replaced, because the only part of the hose that is leaking (slow leak, about 1/2 qt every two weeks) is the end of the hose attached to the lower radiator output. Thanks for all the insight. I have no idea if its stock either. It looks like it to me. Thanks for the help...

How did you get the oil cooler off?? Does it spin onto the center threaded post in the block?? Or does it have it's own bolts into the block??
I can't see how to get mine off - and it is leaking oil...
why dont you just cut the last 1/2 inch or so off of that lower house and reinstall it? there should be enough lengh to do that, I have had to do that a few times to get by over the years.
I have an oil cooler exactly like that on mine and I am completely sure it is stock, it has been there ever since my grandfather bought my truck in '94.
Before replacing things, are you the oil cooler is leaking? I thought mine was leaking, so I cleaned all the oil off, and it did not come back until I changed the oil. I hate dealing with the oil filters in these trucks, there is no good way to keep oil from going all over and dripping off the front end of your truck for a couple weeks.
The sandwich plate is held in place with a double ended pipe nipple (female on one end male on the other) with a 3/4x10 thread you know the one the filter screws too. It has a oring to seal against the block just like a filter would. If you bust an oil linee going down the road all you need to do it un-screw the filter. Grab a 15/16 (i think) wrench (aka big adjustable) and unscrew the plate adapter nut and push it aside and screw on the old filter.
