I hate these kind of arguements, Im very far from biased, After the 38 cars/trucks/motorcycles thats Ive owned in the past 2 1/2 years(8 of which were Fords)Truck wise the Fords have been the most reliable...But dont get my started on the 3 of the 4 mustangs Ive owned, they gave me the worst problems at the worst times, completely dead unreliable...The reason I bought my '91 was because I got a good deal on it and it was cheap, If I had it my way I wouldve bought a 80's shortbox chevy, but at the time I couldnt afford it...

That is me too Fordfan, I am 36 yo and I have owned 47 vehicles, always two or three at the same time. BUT with that said, I currently own a 2000 merc sable wagon, 1985 5.0 LX notch and my truck, they are best I have owned yet....

I've had many Fords, Chevys, everything. I like the style of my '93 F150 and expect to have it a long time. I know of a Ford Explorer with a million miles, I know many ford trucks with over 250,000 miles. They will keep on running as long as you do your due diligence and do maintenance and replace failing parts. Is your engine knocking and has 300,000 miles? Replace it, don't slam Ford for making a crappy engine when it finally leaves you walking.

The way I figure it, a car payment is 400 a month. For that, I can buy a lot of parts for this nice old truck.

hmm, my digital odometer won't go past 400,000

it rolled back to 300,000

engine was replace at 355,000 the first time around (odometer), but nothing wrong with the engine....it was just past due for a new complete engine....

one of the main reasons i bought it from the previous owner

I've seen enough GM over my 40 laps around the sun to know this is simply a fluke.. assuming the guy is not just flat out lying. I'm not saying this isn't possible for a GM product, what I'm saying is it in no way indicates a general level of durability of GM vehicles. I have seen quite a few of the older pushrod motors with a lot of miles on them, but a '91 going that far is exceptional and not at all common. At this point in history GM was using a lot of recycled material in thier castings and had reduced the casting weight significantly from earlier versions. This made the heads in particular very prone to cracking so anything that went more than a couple hundred thousand is 1 in a million. I don't make any secret of my dislike of GM products, but it's not because of their appearance or performance, it's mainly due to their very poor reliability and all too common lousy customer service.

yes he has had to change some parts, like 5 or 6 trannies, But with that many miles do the math for how far each one had to go.

I bought mine with 348,000 so I am curious when I hit 400,000 what it will do.
