we use a 2004 7.3 turbo diesel for work and we move houses and what not, our one ton diesel is always loaded down with loads u would be scared to go down the road with. when we picked this truck up it had an edge power programer installed on it already and we cant complain about the power responce or the fuel mileage in fact the milage is awsome compared to our 3/4ton vortec chevy so try lookin into computer mods air intake mods or exhuast mods all of which are reasonably cheap n easy to install and to top it off diesels respond nice to theses mods
Welcome to FTE. If the truck is a 2004, then you have a 6.0. 7.3 were untill mid 2003.
Thanks for all of the replies gents. I still don;t know what I am going to do. I think my solution might be to just use my truck for the towing and get a "clown car" for all of my running around. I think the old ford festivas got 42miles to the gallon. That would be a huge help since my truck is in great shape and paid for. Although i wouldn't mind selling it for a crew cab long bed 97/98 psd. Then I would gain more space

You can forget about getting a 98' PSD. Either a 97' or 99'. Ford didn't make a 98' PSD.
Ahh your right...I didn't remember. I do like the older body style better and i like the interior better on the older ones.
The body style is subject to personal preference, but I have found few who prefer the OBS interior. You have just become the founder of that club of few I have come across.

It's paid for, that is a big plus. Mine is paid for as well, and diesel/fresh oil is all it asks me for. PMS mods, well, what can I say?
i toyed with the idea of getting a commuter car for service calls when I did not need the truck. I couldn't find anything in good enough shape that was cheap enough to justify. obviously, nice used cars that get really good MPG are in demand.
you just need to figure, will
(price/payment of commuter car + additional insurance + gas + maintenance) < (diesel + maintenance) of your rig right now. if it will save you quite a bit a month, then it may be something to consider. bio is pretty time consuming- that is why i haven't made any.
Maybe you should first get an accountant. If you are having a hard time maybe you need to rethink your business. Charge more. Realisticaly you can't afford NOT to buy a NEW truck. WRITE OFF.
My son who has a landscaping business bought a Duramax in 93. He could smoke my 99 PSD with it pulling a tandam trailer with a bobcat and misc, equipment. So I bought a Duramax. I do like the Ford better but I get 5 mi around town more miles per gal with the Dmax. My son averages around 16.5 pulling his trailer and equipmernt with his.
Ps. I did buy a motorcycle to save on fuel for runnung around. My truck expenses for the Dmax and PSD were over 22 grand last year. 14 of it was fuel.

Well i have had a great run with my powerstroke but I am almost o the breaking point with the maintenance and fuel costs. So far I am averaging in excess of 130 a week in fuel and just recently looked at switching to synthetic oil. But thats going to cost me 85 dollars just to change the oil. I am spending 10 grand a year just to fuel and change the oil in this thing! So what do I do? I need my truck b/c I need to pull my trailers for my landscaping business but I have had it with the fuel bill. I have thought about buying the fuelmister and going to bio but that would be a a pain in the rear dealing with that. I think I would spend the difference getting rid of the glycerin and collecting my oil/ lye ect. I would save over 500 bucks a month if i did it. On the other hand i am thinking of selling the truck but i don't know what I would buy. It's really killing me just running around in this truck sometimes. any suggestions?
Look into a partnership in a Bio setup. Where are you in North Carolina. I suggested it about a year ago but no one responded. I could not afford it all by myself, but I pretty much have nothing but time on my hands.

If you buy another car it won't save you any money. the cost of the car, maintenance and insurance, you'll spend more than you are now. I thought about that too, For a decent car its about $10k, insurance, maintenance and it still uses gas, add all that up and then figure out how many years it will take to break even- 10-15 years. That is a no win situation. Plus your time for more mantenance.
What Rugermack said. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The only advantage that a second, small car will give you is you have a second car to get around in if the truck needs work.
Or in my case, it is simply too large to use as a daily driver.

Great suggestion but I am already a leg up on that. my father is CPA. Don't kill me for this but what about the ford festiva? I have a buddy who bought one and he dropped 1400 buck on it and it gets 42miles to the gallon. all four tires mounted and balanced for 104 dollars. ect. trouble is that they are ugly as sin and hard to find and i am 6'4''
