I have a weird noise coming from my pickup. I have a 2004 S-Crew 2wd, 5.4L XLT, 96K mi. When I drive it I seem to get an "alien-like" sound coming from inside the cab that seems to be connected to the throttle pedal. The best way I can describe the noise is if you try and whistle and hum at the same time. It does it intermitently at speed between 10-55 mph. and it's not consistent.
It's somewhat high pitched; almost like a window leak, but I know all my windows are sealing. And like I said it modulates with the throttle. If you accelerate normally it'll come and go 2-3 times up till about 55-60 mph...then it disappears. The the noise occurs and you let up off the throttle, it disappears. Plus, it isn't there on deceleration.
Just starting to bug me...wondering if anyone has any insight. Possible look for the Alien fuse? maybe that's blown......Thanks in advance!

that ^ is the clincher for me about it being your intake. is it really bad about 30-40 mph with light acceleration before the transmission shifts into 4th gear?
engine is all stock....installed new air filter just after I bought it (with 95K mi on it). I searched around on here a little and seem to be hearing the same answer...that the alternator is the cause. Problem is I bought this used, so no warranty to speak of. Don't really feel like doleling out money for an alternator if I don't have too....just a thought
