per the advice of LXMan and a Holley tech, i replaced my fuel pump. the problem i was having was that after letting the truck sit for a day or two, it wouldn't start. it wouldn't keep fuel up in the lines and i would have to manually keep putting fuel in the carb to get it to start. i replaced the fuel pump with the same model that i took off and it seemed to help. now, it's been sitting for about a week and i'm right back to where i started. if i let the engine turn over for about 20-30 seconds, i'll finally get fuel in the inline filter up at the carb but the carb still doesn't pull it in and it still wont start. after pouring fuel in the carb myself, it'll run until that fuel is gone then it's dead again. after a few seconds, there's no longer fuel in the filter (it's clear). what's happening and what do i need to do?
The only other thing that I could think of is that the supply hoses from the tank to frame or frame to pump are dry rotted and allowing air to be sucked in which can break suction from the tank.
Take a mostly full 5 gallon gas can. Run a hose from the suction side of the pump to the inside of the can. Get the truck started and see if if it keeps pumping. If so then the problem is probably the frame to tank hose.
i thought about trying that. if i just run a hose from the input side of the pump into a gas can, it should suck up gas as soon as i turn the engine over, right? so i shouldn't have to manually prime the carb at all? but what if it doesn't? if the problem still persists after i try that, what could it be then? could there be a problem with the carb itself that could cause this? i really appreciate your help.
