door ajar lite
got a 2001 explorer sport ,the door ajar lite wont go off .took the drivers side door panel off and noticed the door locking mount at the bottom was broken off .how does the ajar switch work and where is it?

I have a 97 XLT. The switch is on the latch. I used electrical spray cleaner and sprayed it UP in the door latch area. Soaked it real good. Then loosened the screws holding the latch in the door. Then used a screwdriver to open and close the latch until the door ajar light went out. Spray lube the latch, especially UP. Then retigthen the latch screws and check that the light is still out. The hardest part is determining which door is the culprit. I found that opening the doors and back hatch one at a time while the enigine is running will cause the correctly operating doors to chime when they are opened. If a door doesn't chime when opened that is the one you need to work on. Don't forget the hatch glass...
