changing hoses
i will be replacing hoses on my 2001 f150 scab 5.4 this week and need to know what other hoses should be changed besides upper and lower. also. i will be buying a superchips programmer (part # 1715) and need to know if i should install a other than stock thermostat.

Only last week I was left stranded - or nearly so - by a heater hose. They're marginally tough to get at, but I'd change them out as well.
On mine, I tried whatever i could to get the quick-connect to unlock, but I couldn't get it. Eventually I think I got one side of the broken hose unlocked - because I could feel that side remained pressed in - but the other plastic tab wasn't releasing its end. I'm not sure I would try this if I didn't think I had one side disengaged, but for that hose I pulled on it hard (in desparation, realizing I could break the heater core, but not wanting to be stuck at work overnight) and broke the black plastic that held the quick-connect plastic in place. It took some time longer to get that final quick-connect piece off of the heater core tube, but I was able to do it.
Pain in the butt, but yeah- you might want to change theheater hoses if you've set aside a block of time to do such things. Having to do them at any other unscheduled time is quite inconvenient (especially when the clothes one has with them at the time is a tie, dress-shirt and slacks).
