offenhauser intake manney ?'s

Offenhauser # 6227C aluminum intake manifold, is the manney i have been thinking about getting for my truck as soon as i get it running. I just want to put a 2bbl on it though not a 4bbl, but are there anybody here that has done a similar setup and can tell me alittle about they're similar setup and/or parts that they used.

Try the six cylinder forum. If you have a stock engine though, I doubt you will notice any difference, and it may run worse.

Thats the offy "C" intake that you hear guys talking about. I'm using it on my truck with an autolite 2150 2bbl & the EFI exhausts.
I'm using a 1.12" off of a late '70s 351, some guys have also used a 1.08" off of a 302. Either way, the 2100/2150s are easy & cheap to get & rebuild.
Not sure what 2bbl you plan on using, but I just picked up one of those cheepo 2-4bbl adapters & used it (works fine).
I used the stock throttle cable brackett, but I did have to modify it slightly. You'll find 2 holes on top of the intake, inboard from the carb opening (they actually go all the way through the intake & can be used for carb heat with the stock exhaust or a water plate), I tapped (helicoiled actually) these holes & bolted down an "L" bracket. I was able to mount the throttle bracket to this.
A word about the stock throttle cable, its "just" long enough. I've replaced 3 so far, think that they get streched just a little too much. When I get the time, I'm going to try one off of a later (EFI) 300, which is a little longer.
You didn't say what type of exhaust you're going to use. The offy is set up so you can use the stock manifold (they'll bolt together like the stock intake), or you can use hedders or the EFI exhaust like I did. If you use the EFI exhaust, you will neet to grind off a "***" in the manifold (test-fit first to figure out which one, its been too long, I can't remember). For ease of installation & alignment, I replaced all of the bottom manifold bolts with studs. You'll be able to use many of the original thick mounting washers, but you'll find a few gaps that are too big. As a temporary fix (more like "temporary-permenant"), I stacked grade 8 washers. Eventually I plan on making something better, most likely out of bar stock. The chevy 250/292 used some clip-like washers that may work as well, if you can get ahold of them.
The whole set-up is a bit redneck, but it has worked for several years. Eventually I plan on doing a few more upgrades (cam, etc.) to the engine, but for now it works. With the better carb, intake & exhaust, the "butt-o-meter" tells me that the that the engine runs better, if a little rich. However, whenever I tune the thing I can't follow the stock settings as they don't nessesarily help. Mostly its been trial & error (& a lot of error!) & I'm sure if I was smarter I could do even better. Have fun & keep us posted.
