2007 Ranger XLT
I just bought an 07 XLT Ranger great truck. I have the 4.0L with a 5sp. Gets 21mpg on the highway at 75mph and i can usually get 340 miles out of a tank of gas. Have pulled my dads boat numerous times at 4500lbs up some pretty big hills and have found the truck to be up to the challenge. I also have the upgraded shocks in the rear and with the boat hooked up it sits perfectly level. Have changed the oil every 3000 miles and am about to roll 10000. Couldnt be happier, the 4.0 with the 5sp has suprisingly more power than i expected when you really run it. I only wish it had the limited slip like the FX4. Any thing i need to keep an eye out for with this truck?

With the 4.0L he has an 8.8" rear end. First thing I would do is switch all your lubricants to full synthetic. Trans, rear end, front axle and transfer case if you have 4x4 and motor and reap the benefits of better mileage and longer life.

I wouldnt worry about the truck. Rangers are pretty good little trucks. I dont know why youd be so surprised about how much performance it has. That truck has the SOHC 4.0L and I think that engine puts out something like 220 hp. Thats a lot of power for a compact truck.
I had a '99 Ranger with the old OHV 4.0L and 4.10 gears and it was pretty snappy. I love my F-150, but I sometimes miss the old Ranger. Its a shame Ford isnt going to be making it anymore.
