Oh ya, when i was young there were all types of attempts to set new records from the edge of town to the first set of lights which used to be on Central Avenue. I usually go around on number 5 highway because quite a chunk of 27 has been turned back to gravel
I cant remember the time to beat any more but it couldnt be done now. The hwy is in terrible shape and some has been turned back to gravel. There is also more traffic now and the set of lights at Wilson's greenhouse. I cant remember if my best time was in my 1970 Z28 or my old cop car - a 1972 Dodge Polara 440 with no radio, no door handles in the back seat, and a 'Certified ' speedometer that would go to 140 mph easily! Just like in he Blues Brothers - cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension! I havent had a vehicle that would turn those top speed numbers for a while - my 2000 Chevy 4x4 w/exhaust, K&N, and hypertech was GPS'ed at 208 kph and I cant remember my dually (maybe 220 or so!). I have set some wild times in the farm<>Calgary Cannonball a few times though. The only places it wasnt on the floor was for Stoon, Rosetown, Kindersley and the intersections west of the Drumheller junction where you go south then back west. if I can recall but not sure but I think on a trip home once during the week during the night it was 5 1/4 hours from the northern edge of Cgy to the farm!
I am a chronic speeder - dont drive ever under 120 but usually its in the 140 - 160 range. Just hope the ESCORT does what its supposed to!

My brother and I both are speed freaks - we were going to go and try to make our fortunes with some type of motorsports when we were young but never had enough money to get the plan in place. I think that between the two of us we have driven/operated/repaired almost everything out there from big farm equipment to potash mining stuff to construction equipment to a race car we had at Bridge City years back to the trucks in our trucking company! We always chuckled once insurance required abstracts from all the drivers to establish an insurance rating for the company. His and my abstracts cost us some in terms of insurance premiums! My Dad used to tell all his friends how these two boys could catch on to running anything with minimal training and operate stuff carefully, efficiently, and productively. He would then laugh about how it was a different story when it came to vehicles - damn boys just go crazy! All these years later and not much has changed!
He yeah laredo I hear ya loud and clear, sounds alot like me actually.
I can pretty much drive anything out there, havent found anything that I couldnt figure out yet. In edson we use a pettibone from the army to load pipe. That thing is cool to drive!
Which trucking company did you guys run? Why did you ever get out of it? I always thought trucking would provide a fairly good income.
Im not much for speeding either well the odd time i like to but really i take er easy cause im on probation still but iam almost done but when im done and get older and more experienced i wont care as much but that probation if you get caught you have to start it over which would suck and another thing speed kills
I use to cruise highway 1 from Port Mann to Chilliwack in my Mazda at 130k..
I pushed it to see what she would max out at one day, 158kph was all she had and that was with 235/75R15's on her. (the speedo only read 148kph). If I had the stock 205/75R14's I probably could have gotten another 10.. But the motor sounded like it was about to rip out...
The ford if going down hill with a good tail wind, I might top 130kph.
