I have a 60 flareside with 223 single barrel 4 on the floor 3.25 gears and stock size tires. I was wanting to go with something with more power and good gas mileage. I thought I wanted a 302 but after reading on the engine forum it sounds like the 300 would be better. Any suggestions would be gratefull. It will be daily driver. At least 60 miles a day. I know that stick get better gas mileage but I'm thinking of going auto.

im a v-8 man myself but.................. the 300's i've had have been rock solid unbeatable motors . the fuel mileage isnt much better in my case but they made more useable torque in the lower ranges where you do most of your daily driving in a big ol hunk of iron like our old trucks , than the 302 did . there's plenty of aftermarket support for 'em too . dain good engines . got 373,000 out of the last one before i gave the truck to my lil' bro .and it was still running .

A tick more Umph & good Petrol milage, huh.
Well just like any other Inline 6, you have to make the venerable 223 I-6 BREATHE! Offenhouser Intake w/ Holley #8007 390CFM 4v & Hedman Headers would be good for a start, as that should add a Minimum 25% to your performance.
Then I'd go for an Under Drive to comp for the 3.25 Rear Gear you're running for Hwy speeds, as that takes away from your FPT output for off the line perfomance.
