Ok, i confused about all the options for the Ranchero.
Mine is a 77 with a 's' engine code, on the door, i haven't had a chance to find the stamped vin to confirm. It has the GT dash logo, bucket seats, floor lock points for bench seats, and 'bourgham' on the inside of the doors. Im getting the felling that at least the inside was moded with parts from other models.
The Vin, will be in two easily seen places. (1) top of the dash on a stamped metal tag drivers side by the A pillar. (2) Drivers side door jamb by the striker, on a decal. 1st digit = model yr. 2nd digit= assembly plant code, 3rd&4th digits= body serial code. example 47= Ranchero 500,48= Ranchero GT, 49=Ranchero Squire. 5th digit= Engine code. These 77-79 model yr. Rancheros, especially the 79, can have a variety of interior trim levels as Ford was cleaning out their inventory, as the Ranchero was being eliminated at the end of the 79 model year. They were using Cougar, & Thunderbird pieces. Ford also offered a Limited Production Ranchero called 1979 1/2 model at the very end of production, it had Thunderbird Heritage door panels, leather stichted dash pad, turbine wheels, special ext. paint & vinyel top colors & engraved dash plaque. Hope this helps Also realize that after 30 yrs, alot could have been changed on the car by various owners, each with their own tastes.
