I have been trying to install a remote starter in my 04 F-150. I have not had much luck so far. I have all the wires hucked up and the truck just wont stay started. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that could help.
Make of remote starter? Did you program the PATS bypass module? Many aftermarket starters have a tach learn procedure(did you connect to the right injector wire?). Did you set the correct run time? We need details of whats happening....
The remote starter is a Ford remote starter with alarm system. I have programed the PATS module. I went through the tach program sequence the parking lights flashed likt the directions said they would. I'm pretty sure that I hooked the tach wire up to the correct wire on the injector. The truck will go through the start up sequence 4 time but will not stat on its own. I have jumped a wire from a hot wire to the ignition wire and it will start with out the key but after about 5 sec it shuts off and them will restart againg but only 4 times befor it wont do it any more.
I seem to remember something in the diag portion of the ford remote start. Does the theft light flash fast after it dies? I don't have my paper work(it's in my box at work, I work for a ford dealership and put these in for work), but i seem to remember the kill after 5 seconds might have been pats related? Do you have access to the diag sheet of what the # of beeps means and so forth?
If it's a ford remote start, you don't splice your acc., power, and ignition wires.... It's a "T" connection that you unplug your ignition harness at the column and plug this harness into each side. The only spliced wire on the column is the horn. Though I've only done remote starts, we don't install aftermarket alarms at the dealer. You can turn the tach learn off, "Tachless", if you have smart start on your truck. I don't know how new yours is but you don't need an injector wire on some.
I have a 2006 F150 XLT Screw and I don't know if my truck has smart start. I plan on installing a remote start in a few weeks and am unsure if i need to hook up the tach wire. I also need to figure out how the driverside kick trim cover by the e-brake covering the wires going to the driver's door comes off without breaking it. Any advise would be great. Thanks

No offense, but you are worried about popping off a couple panels and you are wanting to install the remote start yourself? You can screw up some stuff if you install the system incorrectly. And yes, you will need to hook up tach wire unless your system has a voltage setting then you can use that. Tach will work better though. You can grab it at an injector.
I have already found all the wires on the steering column that I will need and I have good install instructions and the securilock bypass for my truck. I don't think I will have any problems with installing. I just could not see how the kick panel is attatched to remove it. I will figure it out when it is warmer out, to cold to figure it out when it is in the 20s or less.
You wanna know if you have smart start. while the trucks running, turn your key to start very quickly. if the starter grinds, you don't have it. If nothing happens then you have smart start...... Or with the engine off, turn the key to start and release very quickly. If the truck continues to turn over on it's own until it starts then you have smart start....
What kind of Ford start are you hooking up? The ones I do at the dealer(the ford factory starter, not our aftermarket starter) have a "T"ed harness that you disconnect the harness on the column and connect it inline. you don't need to connect any wires. The only ones you need to connect are the locks and hood switch...
Mine does not have a harness like that. It is item number 2w7z-19g364-aa which is alarm, keyless entry and remote start. I don't think I have smart start so I will connect the tach wire. Thanks for everyones help this is a great site.
If you have a logic probe, you can ground or power whichever wire you are looking for(depending on the notation in the install guide) to find out if infact the wire you are holding is the correct one. For example there may be several Yellow w/ black tracer wires in your kickpanel. If you are looking for a specific one, lets say for your lock, you can strip a little piece of the insulation away on one of them and give the wire a ground signal (-). If it is the correct wire, your doors will lock. If it is not the correct wire, nothing will happen. Usually in your installation guide where will be a polarity line that says wether the module grounds the wire or supplies voltage to the wire. I know this is confusing, but it's better to be sure your connecting to the right one then to get it all connected and have to trouble shoot afterwards. Sorry if this is confusing. I can do this in my sleep now, but it's hard to explain any easier....
Well I checked my truck for smart start and this is the result. When running it does nothing when key is turned to start. When starting I must hold key in start position to start. So I think I have a anti-grind but not a smart start.
