I must be a sick puppy but am I the only one that thinks duallies are sexy?
I just think those rear wheel fenders remind me of the curves of a woman's hips!
What size and how expensive? What kind of tires are you going with? I have 235/85/16 Michelins LTX AT's on mine. There is an AT2 out now that the boys at SWT have recommended. I have over 140000 kms on my tires! The Generals that the truck came with were warrantied at 33000 kms and Michelins installed. I rotate lots (even the dismount part for the aluminum wheels) and if I didnt burn them so hard with the SCT tuner I would have been around 160000 before replacing. However, as with anything, the exceptional wear does come at the expense of some traction.
I`m not sure what size or brand I`ll be going with. I was quoted around $400 and up a tire. I`m sure it`ll be interesting when I do get serious about it.
Ouch that will be 2 bills by the time all taxes, enviro fees, and a wheel alignment!
I need ball joints (I think I will go with the Moogs - they are greasable), shocks, and tires. About $3500!
I thought that 16'' rubber alot cheaper than 18''.
I`m lucky, I score a nice set of 4-16'' matched used tires for the 92 F250 4X4, it won`t be used alot so used fits the bill.
They are cheaper but I need 6 of them! I think the ball joints were a grand or so installed w/alignment. I am going with Monroe reflex shocks I think they are a hundred each.
I`m concerned about the ball joints on the 92....Hope they`re fine as it`s another bill I don`t really want till I get the truck completely sorted out. I`d sooner get some nice aluminum rims for it.
At least it now has the fifth wheel hitch for my flat deck, the injectors and pump are now rebuilt, glow plugs/relay fixed and it runs like a top. Once I get the rust repair and paint finished it`ll be ready to rock!
Have you ever heard of anyone taking their new truck and drilling / tapping to install grease fittings in the ball joints in an effort to make them go longer?
I haven`t heard of it yet but it does make alot of sense to keep them well greased, especially in wet weather to keep the moisture out.
I think the reason for lack of grease fittings is that most people don`t bother to grease often enough.
Ive heard of guys trying to drill out holes to insert grease nipples in ball joints before. The problem with that, is the non greasable joints are designed specifically for no extra grease, and, from what I was told, if you add the grease it will actually decrease the life of them.
16 inch tires, tire for tire, will pretty much always be cheaper then a 18 inch. Except when you start getting into the huge 16 inch mudders.
Last time I checked at my dads farm I have a set of 265/75 16 goodyear at/s's, and a set of 285/75/16 goodyear mt/r's. I wouldnt need to buy tires for along time, but the rims I got for the PSD are 17 inch, d'oh!
