Hey everyone! I'm looking into getting new rims to replace the old stock ones. I'm settled on black rims, since I'm not satisfied with the way chrome rims are, and polished aluminum ones are too expensive ($100+ each rim). Here are the two choices I narrowed down to:
US Wheel brand, Chrome and Black 16x7:
OR
Cragar Soft 8 Series (I prefer these ones, but I value your opinions too):
Since my truck has a black grille now, and has the dark tint windows on the camper shell, I think the black rims would work nicely. I worry about chrome rims because of pitting, and aluminum would be nice if they were slightly cheaper!
Personally I would go with the US Wheel black\chrome setup. The chrome in the wheels would accent the chrome trim on your truck (nice truck by the way). I personally think that all-black rims would make the truck a little too dark; just my opinion.
Thanks for the input so far people! The thing that I'm afraid of getting the Chrome and Black rims, is that even after waxing the chrome on them, after awhile, the chrome nowadays seems to start pitting. Maybe the rims aren't that bad, but on my valve covers and stuff the chrome was crap. They started pitting after 4-5 months even with chrome polish.
BUT yeah, I think if I do get all black rims, it would make the tires too dark. Having the chrome on there too would make it look better.
I want a rim that could be dirty for a couple weeks and not really have anything happen to them.
Anyway, let me know what you all think! Right now I'm probably 60% for the US Wheel Chrome/Black, and 40% toward the Cragar Soft 8's.
Let me confuse you more.lol
I would pull you OEM rims; have them blasted and repainted as originial and get new hupcaps if needed, Those camper's look better with the OEM stuff. I do like aftermarket on 4x4's & 2wd custom's & XL models. Just beleive Camperspecial look tougher with stock rims.
Well it's almost impossible finding those stock hub caps in brand new condition. Anyway, I'm trying to get away from the hub caps since I can't really stand hub caps much. That's why I'm leaning toward getting aftermarket rims, because I like when the lug nuts stand out.
Anyway, that's just to clarify. I already thought of redoing the original rims since there's nothing wrong with them and they have little or not rust at all. But no, I think I'll go with aftermarket steel rims.
I personally like white spoke rims. I'm picking up a set this spring when I get new tires. Summit has them for around $35/wheel. My truck is light blue so I think it will blend nicely.
I had those white rims on my previous truck I owned, my 1980 F100 stepside:
I sure do miss that truck! ONLY reason I sold it was because it was a manual column shifter, and I was tired of shifting all the time in it and wanted an automatic. Sad news, the person I sold it to, sold it to someone else, and they wrecked it. Truck was in mint condition too. When I sold it I had some polished alloy American Racing rims on it:
I was thinking about getting white again, but I dunno...although the white rims would match my camper shell perfectly (my truck is a shade called Wimbledon White, and my camper shell is bright white).
Here's my current rims on my F250:
I'll keep looking around. There's LOTS of different styles to choose from.
So, I narrowed the choice of wheels I suppose... I am not getting US Wheel wheels, because of how cheap they are...not sure why they are so cheap but I haven't heard of them before I saw them on Summit's website. As far as Cragar, they are one of the best selling wheels, so I'm going to stick with them.
Here's a pic of my truck, as of Wednesday the 30th of January:
Now, I just might go with chrome rims, but not sure if they would look better, or the black rims with the white tire lettering toward the outside: or
Let me know what you all think! I'm not leaning toward either one right now...although the black rims are $16 less on Summit's website ($51 each).
