i work with a guy that did that, he used one of holleys fuel injection systems, it seems to work fairly well, but there were a lot of bugs that took a while to work out. I don't know all that details or how much it cost, but i can find out for ya. Alos, he gets about 14 mpg with it, and it's a big 4x4.
Holley, ProJection system. Computer controlled Throttle Body Injection type. Very nice, fairly easy to work with, reasonably cheap... slightly over a grand, I think, for the whole system...
If Im not mistaken, Edelbrock also makes a bolt-on TBI system, though Im honestly not sure it's for big-blocks.
BTW... IM getting 14 mpg out of my carb'd 460, in a 5100lb vehicle.. It's all the tuning.

14.29@103.8, 13-14 mpg heheheheheh
Thanks for the lead, I checked out Holley's web site. Alas, they're not legal in California, for pollution reasons. As always, government is stupid. If they really wanted to reduce pollution, there should be an incentive to retrofit to fuel injection. Instead, the morons forbid it. Go figure.
