problems engaging low range?

i was out in my field the other day and there are some pretty good ruts and deep mud pits. i was trying to get my flat bed around to the shop and couldnt get to the trailer without 4 wheel drive. i decided to put it in low range and the light for low range did not come on. the 4x4 light was on and it was defanatily in 4 wheel drive but it did not feel like low range???? its a 99' f-350 anyone got any ideas?

Is your truck manual or automatic? If auto you need to be in neutral to go to low< not for sure about a manual.

Hold the ESOF on 'low' for 15 seconds until light comes on.

If it doesn't, move the vehicle, then repeat the steps (stop, keep brake depressed, put in 'neutral', shift to 4-Low and hold for 15 seconds).

Sometimes it takes more than one try and it doesn't always immediately engage in 'low' right away.

I use 4-Low all the time when I've got the camper on the beach. Works like a charm every time.
