aluminum heads

Ok in all reality here. Would it be possible to run 12.5-1 on aluminum heads on 92 octane? The reason I ask, is I can either go 95cc(10.5cc or so) aluminum heads, or 72cc I believe(edelbrock). Or is there another brand of aluminum heads that are as good, if not better? My main concern is running in 92 octane or less, with not doing a lot with the timing, and getting the most power. Although this is kind of a repeat of a previous post, I would really like to know how much I can get out of this engine on 92 octane.

Any advice, suggestions, or recommendations?

I don't have any experience with the edelbrocks since they are relatively new on the market, but seeing there flow numbers in comparison to say the CJ, or even blue thunders, I would go with either CJ's or Blue Thunders. Only advantage to the edelbrocks is the price is slightly cheaper than the others.

You can run 9.5 to 1 safely and might be able to squeak by with 10 to 1 as a maximum.

P.S. What are you going to use the vehicle for? If it racing or maximum H.P. I'd go with the C.J.s if it's street use I'd go with the Eldelbrocks. Even Ford realilized they had made the ports on the C.J. heads too big for the street and came out with the P.I. heads a year or two later. If your looking for serious HP (over 650) you'll need to step up to the TFS heads or Ford SVO "Sportsman" or "Yates" heads. A number of years ago I was running the CJ heads in my bracket car. With the CJ heads I had a best of 10.30 ET, I switched to a set of TFS heads and posted a 9.70 ET on the very first run and later with a cam change and some tuning for the new heads dropped to a best of 9.50's ET and 140 MPH in the quarter. I am running 10.5-1 right now on supreme with stock heads(besides the port and polish). This truck is made for max power, but I am driving it on the street to highschool everyday(or will be thursday). I hope, after I get the heads, and the nos, be making 700-800 h.p. I will look into the heads you mentioned. Price is no object(since my dad is paying for it.. heh.)

Thanks

Since you'll be seeing a lot of street use save your Dad some big bucks and stick with the CJ's or Edelbrocks. You can make a streetable engine (500-550 HP) plus 200-250 HP nitrous system and
the only major problem you'll have is getting all that power to the ground.
The other heads I mentioned are strictly for racing and very pricey...$3,500 and up depending what valve train is installed (my titainium intakes valves were $85. each, 15 years ago). They would also require a special intake manifold, dominator style carbs,ultra-high lift roller cam and custom built headers. If your Dad still wants to spend big bucks my recommendation would be to go to a street blower instead...I did this to my Corvette this past year and can not believe the differance it made...it pulls harder in third gear now than it used to in first yet still runs on 92 octane (6 lbs. boost). With a blower you won't have to refill your NOS bottle after a few 10 second runs.
Have fun, Deen
