Well, I'm running the full turbo-back system, which as you know, has no cat.. I don't have anywhere near the whistle this truck has... The muffler can make this big a difference?? I'm still running a muffler.

Maybe he's running a different turbo, I thought I saw it was an 05. 03-04 had different turbos with less blades on the impeller- someone correct me if I'm wrong- and in 05 they changed the blade number to quiet it down some?? I guess that beloved whistle just ain't for everyone! I LOVE mine, boy does it turn some heads! I'm still a rookie at this and if I'm incorrect someone will let us know.
Edit: Mine still whistled pretty good even with just the muffler
It could be an 05, which would make it the same setup as my 06, right?
My basic question at this point, is to those that have yanked their muffler from a 5" system.. Does it make a difference in the amount of whistle you can hear?

pull that muff! you will hear a difference, there is not that much difference in the volume of the truck with no muffler on compared to stock. besides that theres not much you can do unless you want to switch to an 03 turbo!
BTW, thanks again for the gauges, they are sweet!
It's the cat that makes the difference. And the earlier models do have less blades (13-14?) on the impellar. I heard a 3 inch straight piped 03 and wanted to cry! My 07 sounds nothing like that! I kinda like the growl of the MBRP muffler with no cat but dayum it was neat sounding.
When the wife rides w/ me in the truck she does alot of this: She thinks I'm an idiot, like some 18 yr old kid that just got his first truck! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my truck! Almost as much as her, ahem... Let us know how she sounds w/o the muffler. You could call Matt and he could prob. sell you a turbo that would sound like that if you're not satisfied with these results That dang mod bug again!!!
Well, we pulled the muffler today, and used the extension pc that came with my system as a muffler elimination section (after cutting 4" off of it).
The first startup I was pretty impressed. A slightly different exhaust tone, but a substantial difference in turbo sound... But, when I pulled out on the road, wow.. It opened up.
My buddy gave me a call from his shop and said "Now when you get on it it's got that 'gas engine' tone to it.. Nice and deep, but wow, that whistle is great!!"
