Am I correct in assuming that to replace my glowplugs, I have to remove everything in the valve covers path to remove the covers? If so, that is alot of stuff to remove.
I realize glowplugs have been covered numerous times, but all the threads seem to jump straight to the covers. To a novice like myself, that is like giving me an empty beer can and telling me to drink up.
I appreciate everyones help in this, I am gettin tired of my truck not starting in semi-cold weather here in Florida. (already replaced the relay, still only starts in 65's +) My poor starter has had enough!
the only things that have to be removed are the CAC tubes, the heater hose brackets (you will most likely break them and they are like $20.00 each), the dog house on the left VC (you will want to pick up some new o-rings for that) and you have to dissconnect the main wiring harness over the left side VC (one 10mm bolt). it also makes it easier to get the right side VC off if you unscrew the oil filler tube out first. that may sound like alot but it is really easy. the hardes part is getting to all the VC bolts. the two on the right side next to the AC evporator can be gotten too from below in the wheel well and the very back one on the left side is a bit of a reach, i lay onto of the engine and use a u-joint on the scocket.
All you really need to do is loosen/remove the IC pipes, and then the air intake. That's about it as far as i know. Then remove the valve covers, pull the GP plugs, and thin wall 10mm socket to remove them.
ok, I am thinking that the IC pipes are the pipes connected to the turbo right? Are there replacement gaskets for these or are they really affected when you take them off (reusable or not)? Mine, if I am right are blue rubber type gaskets on the pipes leading to the turbo.

You disconnect them at the rubber boots, so there are no gaskets, and the valve cover gaskets are reusable. Really the only thing you might need are the o-rings for the CCV doghouse if they are in bad shape.

Which they will likely be, if they're at all old. The heat and oil seems to do a number on them.
I just took my little doghouse breather into the hardware store and found a pair of o-rings from the rubber o-rings drawers that fit perfectly. $.78 each or something like that.
