I haven't welded in my bed floor as yet. I don't think I will need more than the occasional tack weld along the sides. I can give it some good heavy welds underneath to the bed crossmembers I fabricated. Basically I will run a bead of seam sealer along the edge where the bed floor meets the bedside (the 2005 GMC had an approx 3/8" bead of caulking at all the seams)
I'm a big fan of wood. Not only in beds, but everything wood. I like Brandens bed as it all lays out. I like Ross's bed because it has an uncommon grain with the darker color. I'm nowhere near getting my bed done, but I hope to use the whitest wood I can find....so far aspen is it, though it's probably not very durable to taking hits. I like the thought of a rubber mat. My newer purchase will see everyday duty, so a cheaper wood will be something like Black Ash, since I've got it all over my back yard. I would love to see a Rosewood bed. or even Walnut. Anyone?
