I've been looking at a used 06 King Ranch f250 PS SB 4x4 auto with 89k on it. It's at a local Ford dealership for a pretty decent price ($27k). It was purchased locally and traded back at same dealership. No Hitch in bed......ever. The service manager ran Oasis for me and it brought up nothing done under warranty as of today. Good thing or bad? Drives and shifts good. No known problems thru dealership. The original sale date of the truck was 10/24/05. Is this early 06 going to be one of the problem children that I've been reading so much about? Also I drive 1200-1500 miles mon-fri, so the 100k warranty won't last long. I don't tow, or hot rod. i also have no plans for mods. I like the KR's bone stock. They look awesome. 80% of my driving is on the interstate. The rest is rural 4 lane highways with few stops. Is it a worthwhile buy? I am really confused about the whole deal. My buddy says get a 03 7.3. I would agree but they are getting harder and harder to find with lower miles. So ANY advice is good news to me!!!! THANKS!!!!!
Thanks Fellow UGA fan!! So no reason to be concerned with the head popping off while I'm 800 miles from home? That's my biggest fear. I don't mind fixing anything but that's a bit hard when you're stuck on the side of the road.
Thanks for your support too MIKE1646. I haven't been able to get my money tree to go yet. I keep watering it but no luck. If I get the truck, and the payments won't be a problem, I just don't want any major issues anytime soon. While I was talking with the service manager today, he was telling me about 2 different exteded warranties for the 6.0, 6.4 and 7.3. 7yr/200k for about $1600 or a little more coverage (water pump, oil pump, timing chain, etc) for about $2300. That has given me more reassurance. They both cover the block, heads, turbo, and tranny.
Thanks for the advice guys. One more question for my ignorant self. If the truck has 89k on it, is it safe to assume the engine is "good" in terms of head bolts?
If you throw a hot tune on there, they will still go. As much as you say you are going to be driving, your turbo and egr valve will stay good and gunk free so you wont have to worry about the turbo overboosting and lifting the heads. Dont let it idle for to long
