02 sd ps starting question
nephew has an 02 super duty powerstroke, when starting the other day it sounded like it was spinning over kinda slow to me. didn't sound like starter dragging, more like a weak battery. load tested batteries and they are good, checked alternator and it's good. he said when it starts in the a.m. that it will blow white smoke for a while and clear up when warm. could glow plugs be going ? seems to start the same whether warm or cold....just doesn't have that snap start that diesels usually have. any thoughts? truck has been serviced religiously since new by covert ford in austin , texas. he is a starving college student in san antonio now and any suggestions would be appreciated. hate to say this ......but......my cummins was doing the same thing and i had a bad battery. replaced both and spins over like a champ. his batteries show good and load test good.

i dont think it wil start until it gets 20 psi oil pressure.these psd dieseldont start emidiately.after running big trucks for so ong,,it took me a long time to get used to this. i was used to just tappin the starting button an have the engine running.
