they are identical heads so no easy upgrade there.
You can run early heads to gain compression if you must.
putting in larger CJ valves and bowl blending as well as working the exhaust side helps on any of the big block heads.

and for the record, I have actually seen a set of "D8VE" heads that had an actual casting date of 1974. If you know anything about Fords numbering system you would know that is not possible thus they had to be D3VE heads.
The only way to find out the actual year is to check the date casting code.
