Adopted another one
I opened up the glove box and hit the jackpot. Here is all the service paperwork from when the truck was new. Including dealer invoice!!!
The truck only has 81,000 miles on it. (wondered why the e4od shifted so good. Thought it had to be a rebuild.)
What makes this so funny is I only paid $1200 for it...
And it's a 7.3!
I'm one happy camper.
The interior is decent. But the paint is weathered. Theres a dent on the pass side under the rear window. and the typical rust through on the rear rockers too.
But the underside and tranny support are solid as a rock. Frame looks almost new.
It runs a little rough, being it's sat for a long time.
Just came across where the glow plugs and controller were replaced at a ford shop in '04.
I just never get this lucky. All the vehicles I've bought needed constant tinkering with. Hell, even the fuel gauges work.
The only issue I have is trying to fill up the tanks. If I go anymore than a trickle, it's spitting out and shutting off on me. Wonder if theres a seperate vent tube like the gassers.
Tomorrow I'm putting in new bosch glow plugs and an injector install kit.
How does the cold start idle/timing advance work. I haven't noticed any difference on either one...
As for the fuel filling, try pulling out the nozzle a little and leave it on the slowest setting. This is the best way I fill my 97 PSD.
Lots of folks say Motorcraft glow plugs are the only way to go. Seems some other brands have problems with the tips breaking off. Ford still sells them; might be able to get them somewhere else cheaper too.
Check in the IDI forum, those guys should be able to help you out too.
