extending radius arms

what if i just took my stock radius arms, cut them, and lengthened acordingly with some dom or something? Would the stock brackets work? I dont know why they wouldnt.... I could even wrist one of them for some flex....... haha, like I need flex.......

Hm.. I'm going to look into a parts truck tomorrow, maybe I'll steal the arms off of that and experiment. I could make my own, but I'm limited on my tooling at the moment because all of the shops equiptment is in storage for at least a few more weeks. Maybe I'll do both then..

Finally a worthwhile thread!

Arent the stock arms cast? Might be tough getting a good penetrating weld without over heating the cast.

If it were me Id cut the arm off at the C bracket and build the arm from that. A single tube 1 3/4 .250 or .500 wall DOM would be stout.

Yeah, that was my second thought. If I cut the arm near the axle end (leaving plenty for adding supports) and then made it my own from there out. Maybe even some fancy smanshy joints on the end of it? I think that with a high nickel rod, and some good preheating, I can make a nice solid bead.

Hooked at the front to rocks right?

I dont thing there is room. A 73-79 radius arm is 3-4" at the most just after the C. Seriously I think 1 3/4 DOM is enough.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there would be room to do a triangulated setup if I retained the stock C's. Buuttttttt..... If I coil overed the rear and tried a radius arm setup.... then I could do that there. I know a 4 link would be optimum, but I'm just experimenting with this pos.......

man quad....this is the first time weve disagreed.

I dont think you could convulge 2 bars that are 1 3/4 OD with only 3-4" to work with. They would start touching after a couple inches. Then you would just be running 2 bars for the sake of having 2 bars.

Maybe Im the one thats wrong. Ive never done this before.
