no oil pressure

I went on vacation for 2 weeks and my 5.4 sat in the driveway with temperatures getting down below zero for a couple of the days. Well i came back and started it up and while it was warming up i was brushing the snow off of it. i clear the hood off and it start to hear ticking, like there is no oil. So i go in and look at the oil press gauge...sure enough its at zero. so i immidiately shut it off, and the only thing i could think of was something was frozen that cause oil to circulate. So i put a heater under the hood and left it overnight and the next morning i fired it up and got oil press instantly just like normal. has this ever happened to anyone before? what could have frozen to prevent oil circ.?

It may have been the sender or gauge reacting to the cold weather. My 5.4L ticks and howls and generally protests a lot on a cold startup, epsecially when it gets below 0 F.

Keep and eye and ear on the engine for any oil consumpion or odd noises, you may want to change oil (just to be safe) but I'm guessing you'll be OK.

The oil was to thick to flow. What weight are you using? If its that could where you live a 0w20 or 5w20 would be best.

i am running 5-30 royal purple. it has always consumed a bit of oil (about a quart every thousand or so miles) so that is no different. everything else is fine and has ran great since the incident, so nothing is wrong, just was wondering what may have caused that.
i do appreciate the input, thanks.

If your burning some, I would try using a 5W20 conventional oil. It may not work any better, but it does cost less....
