Re-building 460
After using 2 1/2 qts of oil on a 225 mile trip, as well as a bad compression test result my truck is at the local machine shop. After talking with one of the performance guru's there I am sticking with a stock rebuild but with a rv cam installed (due to budget constraints)
My question deals with the exhaust. I noticed on my last two pulls up mountainous grades that I am getting a lot of what sounds like exhaust blow though. Yet I see no visible holes or cracks and it is not loud at idle or normal driving. My performance suffers during this time as well.
Is my exhaust manifold cracked? If so what is recommended for replacement.
Has the excess oil and engine heat messed up my catalytic converter? If so, should I replace with stock, or is there a better unit available.
Once this is all replaced, are their gauges that can help monitor the heat, and where is the ideal location to install them in my truck.
Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

On each end of your heads, is a Soft Plug. It's part of an Emissions thing that wasn't used.
Those plugs are in the Exhaust ports, and they burn through!
When they do, your putting the Fire from a hot exhaust right directly into your Firewall, and out the Front of the heads into the AC on the Drivers side.
In the daylight you can hear it but cant see it. It can be kinda purty at night though!
Also the #4 and @8 exhaust manifold bolts come loose.
You can feel the exhaust leak with your bare hand, very momentarily wipe your hand up and down behind the Cyl Head, while the engine is running, and you'll feel the Hot Breath if that's what is doing the leaking.
C'mon back, or email me, if that's what the problem is. I'll tell you what I did to fix mine.
