i was jus wondering, i read on one of the 2.8 forums or the ranger forums where a person said that you could wire the tfi distributer to where the computer is not needed. he quoted that he used this setup in his race cars. so i was wondering if n e one knew of this trick, and does it work? might be a bunch of junk, might be true, heck i dont know, that is why i asked you guys?!,
It may be true, but without the input form the ECU, you will have no timing advance at it will run like crap. Reprogramming the computer is an excellent alternative that is so much better. The TFI is designed to act as a stand alone system however, so the trick does work in theory.
I seriously doubt you can accomplish anything worthwhile by doing so. A good aftermarket program in the computer can do everything you would need it to do. The only reason for eliminating the ECU from the equation that I can see is to carburate it, but that seems like a step back the the stone age to me, and race carburetors have got nothing on race fuel injection systems.
leave it how it is, if your system has good integrity, it will always produce reserve capability . You have more than enough spark. Also your messing with emissions
