Ok I have a 2002 f150 4x4 with a 5.4 its wasting oil it doesnt smoke or leak or overheat water is clean dipstick doesnt show any signs of water in it but my oil does turn dark black very quick I changed the oil in it and then changed 2 days later is it normal to turn real dark in just 2 days
What do you mean by wasting oil, is the oil disappearing and you don't know where its going or is it fouling up so quickly you feel you have to change it to keep from damaging the engine?

If it's turning black that fast, it much be running really, really rich. How does it run? How is the fuel milage?
if your oil is turning black, it's doing its job. your oil will be black after one heat cycle. your oil is there to lubricate and there are detergents in there to clean and isolate particles from bearings and oil passages. as long as you change your oil every 3-5k with a filter, you're doing good. why did you pull it after only 2 days, there's your oil wasting...
Very funny superdutymj I changed it to see if there was signs of water in it the truck runs good. And I mean the oil wasting and I dont know why I have to put in about 1qrt. every 2 weeks. I dont think thats normal my 88 doesnt do that
could be a faulty pcv valve... only like a 5 dollar part so try and see if that fixes the oil from vanishing... when my 5.4 had a bad pcv valve we would lose oil everytime we ran it and there wasn't a sign of smoke from that truck at all... almost lost that engine over a 5 dollar part..

that's an easy one to figure out, you can put your finger to it and feel it working. it shouldn't burn that much oil though, and when it does it runs bad but the oil doesn't go back into the crankcase. what happenend more than likely is that the po used a conventional oil (pennzoil, quaker state) and the blackness is sludge. the filter will take all of the harmful particles out of your oil.
