well my truck is off the road for the winter cause we dont need it and we have smaller cars to do the running around any ways i went to go start it the other day just to make shure evrything would be good so i hop in put the key in and the buzzer want as loud so i push in the clutch and nothing so i boost it of my dads car and it cranks over really slow so i figured it was jsut cause it was -15* out so trow the block heater on fires up still with the boost. went out yesterday to start it to move my flat bed well it did the same thing except its almost 0 out so it cant be the cold. did the exact same thing today when i started it to move it into the shop to fix my exhaust so i have the truck in there with the batt charger on there so we will see what happens tomarow
it has a new batt in it from the summer of 07
and i didnt leave the lights or radio on so its nether of the
The connections might have some corrosion from sitting. Id still get that battery checked out, if it starts from a jump, and runs by its self, the alt is good. Read the voltage of the battery if you have a meter to do so. That might point you in the right direction.
Could be just from sitting -- depending on how long. The computer takes a little juice all of the time, and maybe your batt isn't in the best shape.
How long did you run it after you started it the first time? It can take a while to bring a battery back after it's been down. This is especially true if you're running it with the heater fan, lights, etc.
You can get a quick battery check by making sire that it gets fully charged ( WIth a charger if you have one). Measure the voltage -- should be around 12.8. Turn the lights, heater, etc on for a minute -- without starting the truck. Should still read around 12v. Another good test is seeing how far down the volts go when you start it -- Should never go below 10.
There are a lot of threads around here on testing batteries and charging systems. They will have better info than I'm giving you.
ok well when its running it sais its puting out 16 or 14 volts im pritty sure ill try cleanign the termanls tomarow
and it was running long enuf to melt all the snow off the hood and it was a good 1" thick took its for a little bit of a drive pulled in the drive way shut it off pushed in the clutch turned key fired right up!
unhook batt. on ground side put a test light in series between batt post and unhooked cable end..if it lights up theres a draw on the batt...unplug alternator if the test light goes out then the isolation diode in the alternator has burned/shorted out......if the light stays on then unplug the fuses one by one till the light goes out....then that is the circuit that is killin the batt.
Batteries often have internal leakage, and can discharge them selves.
I would let it sit overnight with one of the battery cables off, then reattach it just before trying to start it. If it needs a jump again, then it's a bad battery.
