I have a 2000 F250 PSD 4X4. I have noticed lately that when I come to a stop I can smell raw fuel. It seems to be stronger with the heat or vent on if that makes any sence. I haven't had time due to our lovely weather lately to really look for a leak but in a quick look or two I can't see anything. Was wondering if there is a specific place this could be coming from.
Thanks
From the passenger side fender, look down in the valley of the engine. Most likely you will see your fuel that you are smelling. Like jhand said, it could be your drain orings or it could be the water in fuel sensor. Both are common leak points. If it is the water in fuel sensor, get it from international for about $15 as opposed to ford for $78. Drain orings can be had from Pure Diesel Power for like $10.
The fuel bowl drain reminds me. I did flip the drain lever the other day,( I just got in a habit of that with my last truck)
Does the 2000 have a tube to drain the fuel off of the motor or could it have drained on the engine? Or could there be something preventing the valve from closing?
Thanks you got me thinking.
Unless the orings are bad, it won't drain on top of the engine. It actually has a rubber hose connected to a hard line that goes about 3/4 of the way down the front of the engine. My be is that the ULSD finally had it's way with those orings. Poke around in there around the drain with a flashlight and mirror. I bet you'll find your leak.
There is a tube that drains it....but it can get on your axles, and then get thrown onto the underside of your motor. You can see the tube running down the passenger side.....it ends almost where the EBPS valve goes into the engine. Next time you drain it, hook up a small hose and drain into a container to save the mess. Could easily be the O-rings on fuel bowl leaking too, mine started within a month of ULSD around here. On my last truck..the lift pump (fuel pump) was going bad, and I got a smell of fuel in cab from that too.
Wel I found a leak in the water drain valve. It trickled all the time while running, blowing back on the manifold. I just plugged it off for now. How hard is it to get that repaired? My thinking is when I take those 4 screws out and the valve that I will lose all of the fuel from the bowl. I don't think that would be good. Any Tips on this?
Trust me, it's a case of what goes around, I got that advice a month ago, and am passing on the wealth, I'm waiting for the temps to get over 40 degrees though.
