septic question

3 year old system.
when a toilet gets flushed we hear a gurgling sound in a sink or shower drain.
no smells or back ups, just gurgling.
time to pump out?
thanks

check and see if your vent is blocked, the gurgling sound you hear is that it is trying to get air to drain, if you want more info pm ameritaz3038 he is my hubby he will tell you more ok.

I agree that it could be your vent. Thats where I would start anyway, since it isn't backing up. But after 3 years you should probably get it pumped out anyway. Better to spend a little for a pump rig than to spend a lot on a new system.

A lot of it has to do with the size of your family and usage. I am no expert, but I think every 2-4 years is the proper time. However, I know of some people that do it every year so that there is never a question as to when was the last time they had it pumped.

If your septic is operating properly, you shouldn't need to pump it. Have you tried putting some Rid-X in it?

As far as the noise, it sounds like a vent is plugged or was never installed.

2 story w full basement, 2 showers, 2 toilets, 2 bathroom and 1 kitchen sink, 1 dishwasher, and 1 clothes washer. there is a vent pipe through the roof, never made a sound before this past weekend. no rid ex, no disposal, no little ones tossing matchbox cars in, just the usual stuff going in.
this doesn't mean we are full of **it? does it?
thanks for the responses

the gurgling comes from the first floor shower or kitchen drain when either 1st or 2nd floor toilets get flushed.

BINGO! there you go if that main sanitary pipe goes into the basement floor! then goes outside, than i think you have a blockage! water flows down hill!

pipe goes out through the foundation wall at a slight slope. but that doesn't mean there can't be a small blockage, correct? if so, would a good plungering (is that a word)help or hurt?
