I have an 85 ford ranger, the truck ran fine until one day when when it cut out as I was driving down the freeway. It turns over just fine but it's not getting any spark. Does anyone have any advice for what I should do or what the problem might be?
The TFI module on the side of the distributor is a common place for failure. Is your truck fuel injected or carbureted? You can do some basic tests on either to narrow down your search a bit.
My 85 has EFI, and a dist-mounted ignition module. Things that fail: module, pickup, coil, and AND the ignition switch. The coil is cheap, and easy to test. Remove output wire and hook it to a sparkplug that has the body grounded. Turn the ignition on and off. When you turn it off, you should get a spark. You should also get 12v at one of the coil terminals when you turn the ignition switch to 'run'.
My ignition switch started to fail, and the engine would not stay running when the key was in 'run'. I took the cover off, and saw that the switch was starting to separate. I removed the switch and cleaned and re-assembled it, crimping the corners. It now stays running. Previously I had to hold the key just past 'run' for the switch to complete the circuit.
I have replace all the parts over time. Worst is the pickup. It has a connector that the TFI module plugs into from below the 'bowl'. The connector turns to goo over time, so when you plug in a replacement TFI the contacts just push the pickup contacts out of the way. Then you get to replace the pickup.

Check for injector signal at a couple injectors with a test light. If the pickup or TFI is bad, there will be no signal for the injectors as well as no spark, no spark indicates something specific to the ignition system, like an ignition coil. It's a simple test to narrow your search down a bit.
on my '88 under the carpet and the dash on passenger side. a fuel cut off switch. it has a button at the to .press it down and it resets this tricky magnetic pain. now held with electric tape.
