I have a 1991 F-250 4x4 that I plow with a few times a year. The front leaf spring are pretty worn out and the truck is all but bottomed out when i lift the plow off the ground. It has that bad low rider front end look too. I am wondering which is the best option. I can get add a leafs and a timbren kit installed for just over $600 total. Or I can buy a 4 inch lift kit for around $600 and have a friend help me install it. I would really like to lift my truck since I have 315/70 tires on it that rub when i turn and i think they would look really good with a 4 inch lift. Do you think that the lift kit would give me enough stiffness in the front end to plow and not have problems with it being too high? Please tell me what you would get or if you have another solution.
I dont feel that an add a leaf will do what you need
the 4" lift will be better but you need to see what the load
rating on the lift is
being as you have a plow you will want a stronger than stock if possible
the other option is to go back to new stock springs with an add a leaf
Ive known alot of people that do add a leafs to old saggy springs. The only prob with the 4" lift is that your plow chain might not be long enough once it is higher. I had to cut the inner bumper lip so my 36's wouldnt rub. Then I put the plow on and had to trim it some more.
i shouldnt have any problem with the bumper since mine already sits ahead like 6 inches because of the plow mount. As for the chain thats not problem to extend it. I am leaning heavily towards a lift.
